Book Signing For Steve Robertson At The Winston Library

The Winston County Library staff invites everyone to join them for a book signing celebrating Columbia, Mississippi native Steve Robertson's fifth book and fourth in the college sports genre: DAWG PILE, a celebration of Mississippi State's 2021 National Championship Baseball Season.

The library will host the book signing at 2 p.m  (Wednesday, March 23). The event signals the return of book signings to the Winston County library.

Robertson has worked as a professional writer since 1997. His previous works Flim Flam, Stark Villains, Alpha Dawgs, and Blooms of Oleander, have been mainstays on the Mississippi best seller’s list for the past few years. Robertson and his family live in Starkville, Mississippi, where he covers Mississippi State sports full-time.

Since moving to Starkville in 2014, Robertson has covered home and road games for Bulldog fans in several sports. Football, football recruiting, and baseball are Robertson’s primary scope of coverage at Genespage.com, the Mississippi State affiliate for 247Sports.

Robertson’s podcast, The Boneyard, airs three times weekly and provides an in-depth and inside look at Mississippi State athletics. It is available on iTunes, Spotify, and all other forums where quality podcasts are found.

Books will be available for purchase at the library during the event. Robertson is also listed as the speaker today for the Louisville Rotary Club.

From Books To The Ballpark

 Mid-Mississippi Regional Library System (MMRLS) has partnered with the Mississippi Braves located in Pearl, MS, to present Braves Bookworms. Students in grades pre-k thru 8th grade who reside in Attala, Holmes, Leake, Montgomery, and Winston Counties can participate in the Braves Bookworms reading challenge via the Beanstack app.

To start the Beanstack reading challenge, visit mmrls.beanstack.org or download the Beanstack app in the Apple or Google Play stores. New users will have to register in the Beanstack app while returning users can log in and begin immediately. A parent letter is also required and is available online (midmisslib.com/braves) and at your library. Any student who completes the required 400 minutes of reading and returns the completed parent letter by April 1 will receive two free tickets to a 2022 Braves regular-season home game that takes place between April 8 – June 15.

“We know a lot of children and teens in our service area participate in the baseball summer leagues, so we wanted to combine their love of baseball with their love of reading. We are excited to partner with the Mississippi Braves for this event and provide our students with an opportunity to attend a minor league baseball game,” said Lindsay Fitts, Youth Services Coordinator.

DAR January Program

The January program for the Nanih Waiya Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was presented by Cindy Mangum. Cindy is the State Insignia Chair. She spoke to the members about the insignias that they wear to represent their chapter, their ancestors, their roles in DAR and their interest in different fields of work in DAR. Cozy Mystery at the Winston County Library

Susan Clark checked out her first Cozy Mystery at the Winston County Library. After reading 10 books, she will receive a free advance copy of an upcoming new release! The program will last all year.

Fire Dept Showcases Staff

 

In 2022 LFD wants to recognize and introduce you to some of the amazing personnel that work so hard to keep the City of Louisville, and Winston County Safe. So we are kicking off what you can call a new series of recognition posts each month were we will spotlight a fulltime, and volunteer member. To kick it off we want to recognize our 2021 Career and Volunteer firefighters of the year. Each were voted on by their peers to receive their awards at the end of 2021. Career spotlight is Deputy Chief Jeff Franks, and Volunteer Spotlight is Firefighter Danielle Mitchell! Thank you for all that you do., and keep up the hard work.
